General Buying Tips

  • It’s cheaper to buy maps when included with your TomTom than to add them later. Even if that camping trip to France is only a vague thought at the moment, it’s often worth paying an extra tenner for European maps – it costs a lot more to upgrade at a later point.
  • If you’re buying a new TomTom or Garmin model then you will always be able to download the latest map for free from TomTom or Garmin once you receive it. If you’ve had your sat nav for a while it may be worthwhile updating your maps to the latest version.
  • Although it sounds obvious, don’t pay extra for features you won’t use. E.g. If you’ve no intention of hooking up your mobile phone via bluetooth, and don’t want to stream music or upload your pictures etc, consider the TomTom START range over the TomTom GO range.
  • Make sure you buy your sat nav at the best price possible. As a general rule, when new models come out then the old models are reduced in price considerably.
