What does refurbished mean, and what’s the difference between ‘refurbished’ and ‘manufacturer refurbished’?

All models shown on our refurb page are refurbished, which basically means that they can not be sold as brand new. Often an item is sold as refurbished for something as little as a cosmetically damaged box, or it may have been previously sold and returned by a customer. Either way, all units are fully inspected, tested, complete and in ‘A1 Condition’ before they are listed for sale.

Retailers such as Tesco and Argos have their own inspection processes, and promise ‘as new’ condition. See the product descriptions for more details.
Manufacturer refurbished products are refurbished by the manufacturer to the highest of standards. Each device undergoes rigorous inspection and, if required, is restored using original manufacturer parts. Approved under a strict manufacturer test plan, each refurbished device is certified to comply with the same high standards as that of a brand new model. They therefore have the TomTom, Navman Mio or Garmin ‘seal of approval’.

NB: TotalPDA and TomTom are the only ‘TomTom approved’ distributors of manufacturer refurbished models in the UK.

Do refurbished products ship with a warranty?
Yes. A manufacturer refurbished product ships with the same 12 month TomTom, Navman Mio or Garmin warranty featured with new devices, so you can buy with complete confidence that your device is fully covered should you experience any technical difficulties. If buying clearance stock from a retailer such as Tesco or Argos, you will find that they offer their own 12 month warranty too – see the product descriptions for more details.

Will my refurb come with the latest maps installed?
Not necessarily. Most refurbs are shipped with the maps that they originally had installed, which in most cases may be a few months old. You can always choose to upgrade your maps of course, but there will be the usual charge.

What condition will my refurbished satnav arrive in?
Each refurbished satnav comes complete with fully sealed retail packaging and includes the same boxed accessories you would find in a new product. You’ll find it hard to spot the difference between a new and refurbished product, making refurbished devices an excellent opportunity to own the latest technology at the lowest prices.
